New Song for Sunday -- T'was on that Dark, that Doleful Night
As many of you know, we have been learning a new song in the evening service, which we will be singing this coming Sunday morning. Rick sent me this text a couple months ago when we began working through the last night of Jesus’ life. It’s hymn written by Isaac Watts and the lyrics are fantastic! I almost want to call it “a hymn for the Lord’s Supper.” It is definitely that and something the Church needs more of. However, it’s more than that.
In retuning this hymn, I took the final verse and made it the chorus. I hope that Mr. Watts will be happy with the end result. I also pray that the Lord would use it to strengthen our faith in and our love for, Jesus, our desire for communion with him, and a longing for the great Feast that is coming when he returns!
Here is the lead sheet you will see in the bulletin on Sunday.
Here is the lead sheet for those who would like to play it. We play it in a different key than what is written in the bulletin. It just seems easier to read the key of Bb than B! For the guitarist, I capo 4th fret and play in G. For the record, this song is better on the piano!
And here is a demo we put together.
